Walked up training day 07.11.15.cropped-image79.jpg

A very wet day in November was our first walked up training day of 2015. For most of the group it was their first experience of the shooting field let alone being the first experience of a shoot for the dogs. We had four very experienced guns out, one of whom runs his own shoot and the other three were our good friends at The Shotgun Training Company. Everyone was nervous, albeit we had some experienced dogs it was still a first for many. After a quick briefing to thank the estate, shoot owner and introduce the keeper for the day, we started out.  We were lucky enough to have a mixture of retrievers, spaniels and HPR’s giving us a fantastic opportunity to see the different breeds working. We did a mix of rough shooting but also managed to set up some lovely drives, giving everyone a mixed perspective of different types of shooting.  We even managed a duck drive. Everyone did really well, and other than a few minor training issues which is expected for novice dogs in this environment, I couldn’t be happier with how everyone did and progressed throughout the day! A mixed bag of pheasant, partridge and duck made for a fabulous day. Weather aside, it was perfect! To see everyone with their dogs doing their first retrieve! Priceless! Just remember to revisit your basics over the coming weeks to continue to maintain the training! Roll on the next one! If you’d like to take part in our next walked up training day then please get in touch. James Reavil. MCFBA & MGoDT(MT) Retriev-r-trainerimage
